St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis Tries to Repair Relationship With Physician Group

St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis is taking steps to repair its relationship with physician group Patients First Health after years of tension, according to a St. Louis Business Journal report

PFH is set to open a three-bed hospital in Washington, Mo., this fall, and Mercy has recently sent a letter to the group's physicians proposing a "new beginning," according to the report. The group's three-bed hospital is less than a mile from Mercy, and the system had filed a lawsuit trying to prevent the PFH hospital from opening.

Still, tense relations extend beyond the hospital's opening: In Nov. 2009, Mercy revoked the privileges of four PFH cardiologists.

Mercy executives have provided their personal phone numbers and email addresses, encouraging PFH to reach out to them directly. "There is a strong, prevailing desire that Mercy and the physicians of Patients First work together for the common good of the community," Mercy executives wrote in the letter, according to the report. "We are very interested in talking with you about a future together."
