Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point to Start Residency Program

Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson, Fla., plans to start an internal medicine residency program in July 2014. The American Osteopathic Association recently approved the program.

"Our program will be dedicated to providing the highest quality graduate medical education for those who come to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point from the nation's medical schools," Shayne George, the hospital's CEO, said in the news release. "There is an added benefit to our community because graduates are inclined to remain in the community where they have completed their residencies."

Statewide, Florida is facing a physician shortage, and expanding GME programs like this one can help alleviate the state's need for more physicians, according to the news release.
