Physician Associates' pending $50 million sale to Orlando (Fla.) Health will leave each of the group's 95 physicians with about $500,000, according to an Orlando Sentinel report.
The deal is expected to take effect Dec. 31, when physicians will become hospital employees. Physician Associates is a dominant player in the primary care market in the Orlando area. Collectively, its physicians care for about 340,000 patients.
Orlando Health already employs about 400 physicians. Eric Walker, MD, a family practitioner and chairman of Physicians Associates' board, said hospital employment will leave him seeing 25 patients per day instead of 35, as the arrangement will allow for more time and effort on physicians' patient monitoring, according to the report.
