Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust, the state's public trust from tobacco lawsuits, is awarding a $3.8 million, six-year grant to Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences and OSU Medical Authority, both in Tulsa, according to a local news report from News 9.
The grant will be used to staff emergency medicine physicians in Norman, Okla., according to the report.
The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust funnels all funds earned from tobacco lawsuits back into the state's healthcare system, through grants and programs that improve the health of its residents. It aims to reduce leading causes of preventable death, including cancer and heart disease, with a focus on tobacco use prevention and obesity prevention.
