A bill introduced into the Nebraska Senate would eliminate the need for nurse practitioners to have a practice agreement with a physician, according to a report in the North Platte Bulletin.
The bill was introduced by Sen. Sue Crawford. She says the practice agreement is one of the reasons the state is losing 70 percent of NPs out of the state to nearby states like Colorado, Iowa and Kansas, according to the report.
Nebraska's CMO and director of the state's Division of Public Health, Joseph Acierno, MD, has spoken out against the bill, citing patient safety concerns.
Legislative Bill 916 received first-round approval in the Senate last week.
