A recent study published in the American Journal of Managed Care confirms previous research suggesting hospitalists can help reduce hospital lengths of stay.
For their study, researchers conducted a review of medical literature to determine the impact of hospitalists on length of stay and healthcare costs. Their meta-analysis of research abstracts showed hospitalist groups were able to lower length of stay by nearly half a day compared to other non-hospitalist groups.
Overall, however, the researchers did not find hospitalist groups reduced healthcare costs.
