A group of more than 150 Pennsylvania physicians are calling Senate candidate Mehmet Oz, MD, a "major threat to public health," PBS and NPR affiliate WHYY reported Oct. 17.
The group, known as Real Doctors Against Oz, is speaking out against Dr. Oz as he campaigns for a Pennsylvania Senate seat.
Physicians in RDAO cite Dr. Oz's history as a television physician who undermines the trust of their profession as the reason for advocating against him, according to the report. The group states if Dr. Oz is elected, he would exploit his constituents as he has his viewers.
Other physicians have spoken against Dr. Oz previously. New York-City-based Columbia University Medical Center cut ties with him in May after physicians at the facility said he "has repeatedly shown disdain for science and evidence-based medicine."
