Humana's Quality Rewards Program Gives $35M to Florida Primary Care Physicians

Humana has distributed more than $35 million to Florida primary care physicians who participated in the Humana Provider Quality Rewards Program in 2011.

About 900 physician practices in the state received payments in recognition of outcome and performance improvements made in the last year for Humana Medicare Advantage health plan patients.

Humana payments to physician practices are based on quality improvements in nine areas:

•    Breast cancer screening
•    Glaucoma screening
•    Colorectal cancer screening
•    Cholesterol screening
•    Diabetes management
•    Osteoporosis medication management
•    Body mass index
•    Diabetes treatment management
•    Anti-rheumatic drugs for rheumatoid arthritis patients

In 2011, participating physicians received about $20 million for their 2010 improvement results.
