Lecture halls are not the only place Eric Strong, MD, an associate professor at Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine, likes to share his knowledge. He's also a well-known YouTube star, running a medical education channel with more than 300,000 subscribers.
Dr. Strong launched his "Strong Medicine" YouTube channel about eight years ago, publishing two to three videos a month for medical students and professionals. He made his first video as part of a lecture for a medical residency program, recognizing that few residents actually refer back to lecture slides from professors.
While the first few videos on his YouTube channel averaged about two views a day, Dr. Strong gradually developed a large, international fan base with viewers from Brazil, Iraq and India.
In the videos, Dr. Strong offers tips on how to survive medical school, shares his personal experiences in the medical field and offers opinions on topics such as the validity of published medical research.
