Ben Carson says he turned down surgeon general twice

Former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson, MD, claimed on a radio show he turned down two offers to be surgeon general — one from former President George W. Bush and another from President Barack Obama.

Dr. Carson said on Monday's "Alan Colmes Show" he wouldn't even take the position if Donald Trump becomes president, according to The Hill. However, he said, "I will certainly continue to talk to [Trump] and advise him, but I do not want a government position," according to the report.

On a previous interview with the "Alan Colmes Show," Dr. Carson called the surgeon general position "ceremonial," and powerless, according to The Hill.
