Applications have doubled to Central Michigan University College of Medicine in Mount Pleasant in its third year, due mainly to out of state applicants, according to Midland Daily News.
The school reported 4,603 applicants this year, up from 3,008 last year. Of this year's prospective class, nearly three-quarters (71 percent) applied from out of state, according to the report. Applicant numbers will be final pending verification from the American Medical College Application Service.
CMU College of Medicine accepts a class of 104 students each year. In past years, the roster has been 90 percent Michigan residents. The incoming class will be announced after April 30.
CMU College of Medicine was established as the nation's 137th medical school in 2013, to help address the growing physician shortage in Michigan and staff rural and underserved areas of the state.
