Long Beach Memorial Nurses Authorize Strike

Nurses at Long Beach (Calif.) Medical Center and Miller Children's Hospital, also in Long Beach, have authorized a strike in the midst of contract negotiations between the nurses' union and hospital administration, according to a Press-Telegram report.

The California Nurses Association, which represents the roughly 2,000 nurses, has been negotiating with the hospitals over the nurses' contract since July. The nurses' previous contract expired in September, according to the report, and both sides have been unable to agree on certain compensation, benefit and staffing issues.

Union and hospital representatives are scheduled to meet Tuesday and Wednesday this week to continue to negotiate an agreement.
