President Donald Trump said March 27 that he understands the complexities of healthcare and the Republican Party will be the "party of great healthcare," according to CBS News.
"I mean it 100 percent, I understand healthcare now, especially very well," President Trump said during an Oval Office meeting with Fabiana Rosales De Guaidó, the interim first lady of Venezuela. "The Democrats have, they've let you down, they came up with Obamacare. It's terrible."
The remarks come after the Republican Party has repeatedly failed to repeal and replace the ACA. They also follow a Justice Department filing on March 26 that said the department supports a judge's ruling that the entire ACA should be invalidated.
In December, a federal judge in Texas held that the ACA is unconstitutional. The judge sided with the Republican-led states that brought the lawsuit, Texas v. United States, calling for the entire ACA to be struck down because Congress eliminated the healthcare law's individual insurance mandate penalty.
