President Donald Trump called out Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for not supporting Republican legislation to repeal the ACA this past summer during a Friday address to the Conservative Political Action Committee, where he also lauded the GOP's new healthcare strategy, according to The Hill.
Mr. McCain cast the decisive vote against a "skinny" repeal of the ACA in July with a notable thumbs-down motion, and the bill was defeated 51 votes to 49.
"Except for one senator, who came into a room at 3 o'clock in the morning and went like that, we would have had healthcare too, we would have had healthcare too, think of that," Mr. Trump said, according to The Hill, alluding to Mr. McCain's hand-signalled vote.
Even though the GOP has failed to repeal the ACA, Mr. Trump touted the smaller measures his party has taken to undermine the law.
"I think we may be better off the way we're doing it, piece by piece, ObamaCare is just being wiped out. The individual mandate essentially wipes it out, so I think we may be better off," Mr. Trump said, according to a separate report by The Hill. "And people are getting great healthcare plans and we're not finished yet."
