Three health systems — Tenet Healthcare, Carolinas HealthCare System and Novant Health — have all re-applied for a certificate of need to build a hospital in Fort Mill, S.C., according to a Charlotte Observer report.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control originally awarded a CON to Tenet in 2006, which owns Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C.. However, Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare and Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health appealed the decision.
In April, the South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that the three systems should resubmit bids for a hospital if they want to be reconsidered.
All three announced plans to resubmit, and a decision on the CON is expected by April of next year, according to the report.
Carolinas HealthCare's proposal is for a 64-bed, $79.1 million hospital. Novant is also proposing a 64-bed hospital, but at the cost of $76.2 million. Tenet is proposing a 100-bed, $147 million facility.
