Tenet Healthcare's Park Plaza Hospital and Medical Center in Houston has opened a Senior Emergency Department, a specialized emergency unit to service older adults, according to a Cypress Times report.
Seniors make up the largest growing segment of Houston's population, and the specialized department is tailored to meet their specific health needs, according to the report.
The department's nurses are certified in geriatric emergency nursing, and patient rooms include hearing and vision aids as well as extra space to accommodate family.
The hospital partnered with Baylor College of Medicine's Section of Geriatrics to develop the unit.
