The CEO of Fort Worth, Texas-based John Peter Smith Hospital issued a letter Jan. 29 to the facility's elevator service operator demanding the company address safety concerns roughly one week after a hospital employee was seriously injured in an elevator accident, NBC 5 DFW reports.
CEO Robert Earley sent a letter to ThyssenKrupp Elevator Corp. stating that allowing continued issues with the hospital's elevators "is unacceptable and jeopardizes the safety of our patients and team members," the report states. He noted that on Jan. 25, seven elevators were taken out of service for safety issues, and only one technician was available to help fix them. Mr. Earley claimed more technicians were sent only after the hospital requested them.
He wrote that ThyssenKrupp "may have failed to live up to its service and maintenance obligations here at JPS," and that the hospital has contacted a third-party elevator consulting firm to provide oversight.
Mr. Earley's letter comes roughly one week after a female employee was severely injured in an elevator accident at the hospital.
