Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Winchester, Nev., is planning to eliminate 144 jobs as a result of the poor economy, according to a Vegas Inc report.
From 2010 through 2011, patient volume at the hospital has fallen 2.6 percent. Sunrise has also seen a 26 percent jump in uncompensated care over the past year, according to the report.
Administrators plan to trim open positions and reduce contract staff, according to the report. Hospital executives have offered voluntary severance packages to workers, giving them until May 30 to decide whether they will accept the offer. A hospital spokesperson said the buyouts will still not save employees from receiving pink slips.
