A shooting at Regional Medical Center-Orangeburg (S.C.) last month spurred the hospital to make significant security changes, according to CBS affiliate WCSC.
A patient opened fire in the emergency department of Regional Medical Center-Orangeburg April 10, injuring a nurse who has since been released from the hospital. The suspect, 23-year-old Abrian Dayquan Sabb, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Regional Medical Center-Orangeburg said it is working with the security company Allied Universal to conduct a facilitywide security assessment and make changes as necessary.
The hospital has already implemented a new check-in system for visitors and 24/7 security with armed and unarmed guards. Regional Medical Center-Orangeburg is also using security wands at all ED entrances until it can install full metal detectors.
