The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control is expected to make a decision by early September of the fate of three health systems' certificate of need applications to build a hospital in Fort Mill, S.C., according to a Charlotte Observer report.
Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System; Tenet Healthcare, which owns Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C.; and Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health have all filed CON applications with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Carolinas HealthCare's proposal is for a 64-bed, $79.1 million hospital. Novant is also proposing a 64-bed hospital, but at the cost of $76.2 million. Tenet is proposing a 100-bed, $147 million facility.
The decision will greatly impact the health systems and the "winner" could reap millions of dollars in increased revenue from expanding in the rapidly growing area, according to the report.
