Press Ganey has published a whitepaper that identifies the top 10 metrics to help healthcare executives and board members focus strategies on advancing the safety and quality of care, as well as the patient experience.
Press Ganey CEO Patrick T. Ryan and CMO Thomas H. Lee, MD, authored the paper, called "A Proposed Quality Report Card for Boards," which recommends 10 critical quality metrics that collectively provide a holistic report of how well an organization is meeting patient and provider needs.
"In our dynamic and competitive health care environment, boards and their management teams must work urgently to advance care delivery while also achieving financial results," said Mr. Ryan. "A board that focuses on the quality performance measures that impact the safety, quality and experience of care will have a better understanding of how their organization is competing on value as well as fulfilling their mission to reduce suffering."
Measures included in the Quality Board Report Card come from primary qualitative research on CEOs and other senior leaders, combined with Press Ganey data. Mr. Ryan and Dr. Lee narrowed 26 measures across safety, communication, teamwork, loyalty, engagement, value-based purchasing and outcomes to a list of 10 key metrics to help leaders manage and advance performance in safety, safety culture, clinical outcomes, patient experience and high reliability.
