The advisory board of Suburban General Hospital in Bellevue, Pa., is suing West Penn Allegheny Health System over the health system's plan to end emergency and inpatient services at the 59-bed hospital, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.
The board is asking for an injunction of the closing, which is scheduled to occur at the end of the week. The board is arguing that the 1994 merger agreement between Suburban General and West Penn guarantees the hospital remain an acute-care facility, according to the report.
West Penn announced the closing of emergency and inpatient services at the hospital in May, due to low volumes. It plans to continue outpatient services at the facility.
