As part of restructuring efforts amid reduced inpatient volumes and decreased revenue, DuBois, Pa.-based Penn Highlands Healthcare has announced 30 employees will be laid off at its Clearfield campus and 50 others will see a reduction in hours.
Also, 11 jobs that are or soon will be open because of previous resignations or scheduled retirements will not be filled, according to a news release.
Penn Highlands Healthcare said that this "workforce adjustment" at Penn Highlands Clearfield will involve full-time and part-time clinical, support and management positions and is aimed at aligning staffing levels with reduced inpatient volumes.
Penn Highlands Healthcare also announced that it has realigned critical care services at the Clearfield campus. Additionally, it announced a return to private rooms for medical/surgical inpatients at Clearfield and plans for a new outpatient diagnostic center, which will be developed in the Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D., Cancer Center building.
"When we formed Penn Highlands Healthcare, our mission was to secure, enhance, and expand quality healthcare services in the eight-county region we serve," Penn Highlands Healthcare CEO Raymond A. Graeca, said in a statement. "Although we have accomplished much in the areas of enhancing and expanding the primary care and specialty medical services we offer the residents of this region, we have known for some time that we still have some difficult but necessary work to do in securing the future of our facilities. Today's announcement involving Penn Highlands Clearfield is an essential first step toward that goal."
