A woman who sued Tufts Medical Center in Boston has dropped her case, which was filed in July and claimed the hospital violated her privacy by faxing her medical records to her office without consent, according to a Boston Globe report.
TMC had made no offer to settle the suit at the time it was dropped, according to the report. The patient sought punitive damages, claiming the four pages of medical records sent to her workplace fax machine caused her embarrassment and "stalled her career," according to the report. She was recovering from a hysterectomy when the records were faxed.
The hospital denied wrongdoing from the start and said "the [physician] was following the patient's instructions" by faxing the record, according to the report.
The suit was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be brought to court again.
