Partners HealthCare opens center of excellence for preventive care, chronic care

Boston-based Partners HealthCare launched a center of excellence, dubbed Partners HealthCare Pivot Labs, during its 10th annual Connected Health Conference Oct. 17.

The center, a collaboration between Partners HealthCare and technology services firm Persistent Systems, was founded to "disrupt" healthcare delivery and "reimagine" the patient experience, Partners HealthCare said. To meet this goal, the center will encourage the development of new digital tools that support preventive care, chronic care management and care coordination.

Pivot Labs will collaborate with businesses across the healthcare industry — including pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, health payers and providers — to scale ideas for digital health products throughout the development lifecycle. This describes the path a product takes from conception to rolling out to providers and patients in a clinical environment.

"Disruptive ideas in healthcare often lack access to expertise and testbeds for validation," Kamal Jethwani, MD, senior director of Pivot Labs, said in a news release. "I strongly believe that the foundation we are building for clinical research, design and data science for the patient experience can rapidly accelerate the adoption of patient-centric innovations in healthcare."
