Columbus, Ohio-based James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute officially opens the doors of its new facility Monday, Dec. 15, to be the third largest cancer hospital in the nation.
The 1.1 million-square-foot hospital houses 306 inpatient beds on 21 levels. The facility includes a 36-bed bone marrow transplant unit, 14 operating rooms, six interventional radiology suites, seven linear accelerators for radiation therapy and an integrated cancer emergency department. About 700 staff and volunteers helped transport roughly 260 patients to the new center over the weekend.
The original Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital opened in 1990 with 17 patients as the first freestanding facility dedicated to cancer patients in the Midwest.
