The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services has released a report that recommends the state reopen Pascack Valley Hospital, a development that could boost the odds of the Westwood, N.J. hospital's revival, according to a Pascack Valley Community Life report.
The State Health Planning Board will review that report and make a recommendation at a meeting today, deciding whether or not the hospital should reopen. Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center wants to open it as a 128-bed acute-care facility with a $39.6 million renovation. As proposed, the hospital would open in late 2012 or early 2013.
The state DOH said the hospital is needed due to the "lack of accessibility to such services due to increased travel times" in emergency situations, according to the report. It also said the facility would relieve some occupancy problems at HUMC.
