New program aims to boost numbers of Black women on boards

Two experienced tech executives have founded a group called Black Women on Boards to boost diversity for corporate boards, Fortune reported Feb. 1.

The group will take shape as a six-month accelerator program with workshops, webinars and coaching sessions aimed at placing high-potential executives into board positions.

Co-founder of the program Merline Saintil said that spreading awareness is important, as many Black women don't know that opportunities for board positions are accessible to them.

"The answer that I typically get is 'I didn't realize I could do this,'" she told Fortune. "That is the thing that I hear most often."

The goal of the program is to place 100 percent of participants into positions by the end of 2022, when their first cohort will graduate. They have backing from venture capital groups and investors who are offering funding and strategic guidance.
