Nurses at Hibbing, Minn.-based Fairview Range Regional Health Services rejected a mediated offer and authorized a strike, according to a Minnesota Nurses Association news release.
MNA chair April Klander, RN, said the offer did not "go far enough" in addressing staffing concerns, according to the release. The association also opposes the hospital's demand to force nurses into a Paid Time Off structure that combines sick days and vacation time.
The MNA had cancelled a three-day strike set for May 4 to vote on the mediated offer. The new authorized strike has not yet been scheduled.
RRHS nurses have been negotiating with the hospital since Sept. 2010, a month before the current contract expired. The nurses and hospital will continue to operate until an agreement is reached.
