Miami-Dade County's Jackson Health System will lower its rates to commercial HMOs in order to increase volumes at its hospitals, according to a Miami Herald report.
Jackson CEO Carlos Migoya said Jackson's rates were previously based on full costs, which included included losses on the large number of uninsured patients Jackson treats. In order to offer more competitive pricing, rates will be reset based on incremental cost, which is the actual cost of labor, supplies and other costs for a service, according to the report.
In return, the HMOs would guarantee a certain number of cases to Jackson each year.
