Thomas Collins, MD, associate CMO and an emergency medicine physician at Cleveland-based MetroHealth System, is being recognized April 15 by the FBI.
Dr. Collins will receive the 2016 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award.
The national award honors those who have made an extraordinary effort in combating crime, terrorism, drugs and violence.
MetroHealth said Dr. Collins has been a valuable and loyal partner to the Cleveland division of the FBI and numerous Northern Ohio law enforcement agencies. In addition to his positions at MetroHealth, Dr. Collins is the medical director of Cleveland emergency medical services. In these roles, he has worked closely with Cleveland law enforcement for years, according to MetroHealth.
Dr. Collins has played a key role in the integration of trauma center level emergency medicine and tactical law enforcement operations in the Cleveland area. He also helped in the creation of the Tactical Emergency Medical System that trains law enforcement agents in medical procedures that can be used in high risk emergencies, according to a news release.
"The entire MetroHealth family congratulates Dr. Collins. We see Tom in action, every day, working to make a difference in this hospital and across the community. He is a true leader in every sense of the word and we join the FBI in honoring him," Akram Boutros, MD, president and CEO of MetroHealth, said in a prepared statement.
