Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, Wyo., has fewer board members after three resigned and two were removed, according to a Rock Springs Rocket-Miner report.
Here are six things to know.
1. Trustees Joe Manatos, Harry Horn and Grant Christensen gave verbal resignations to Sweetwater County commissioners, according to the report.
2. After an hour-long executive session, commissioners also removed trustees Artis Kalivas and Gene Carmody for just cause, according to the report.
3. Reasons given by commissioners for the trustees' removal included failure to maintain their fiduciary duty to manage the hospital and allowing days cash on hand to fall from 200 days to 86 days, the report states. Additionally, commissioners noted the following two reasons: allowing a trend to continue toward default of the hospital's bonds and attempting to implement a financial plan without proper board approval.
4. The commissioners agreed to keep trustees Richard Mathey and Taylor Jones, citing their short time on the board and their lack of responsibility for the previous inaction of the other trustees, the Rock Springs Rocket-Miner reported.
5. In other changes to the board, commissioners cut the number of board members from seven to five, and appointed Barbara Sowada to serve as a trustee, according to the report.
6. The board reconfiguration announcement came after commissioners and trustees discussed the hospital's financial action plan, according to the report. The report states commissioners expressed worry that trustees apparently did not know much about where proposed cuts were going to take place.
