Kasich calls Republican promise to repeal ACA a 'big joke'

When Republicans vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act in 2014, it was a "stupid promise," presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) said on "The Jay Weber Show," according to The Hill.

"Do you realize that that’s just a big joke?" Gov. Kasich said, according to the report. "It got all these conservatives stirred up and angry because they didn't keep their word."

Repealing the healthcare reform law with President Barack Obama in office would be nearly impossible, he suggested. However, he added that his experience as governor of Ohio makes him an ideal candidate to make healthcare reforms in the Oval Office.

As the report notes, many conservative voters do not approve of Gov. Kasich's choice to expand Medicaid in Ohio and accept the federal funding provided under the ACA to do so. Gov. Kasich has stood by this decision, reasoning he was leaving tax dollars behind by not expanding Medicaid, and also that doing so was a moral obligation to the poor, according to the report.
