The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board has rejected separate proposals by two health systems to develop hospitals in McHenry County, northwest of Chicago, according to a Northwest Herald report.
The board rejected a plan by Crystal Lake, Ill.-based Centegra Health System to build a $233 million, 128-bed hospital in Huntley, Ill., as well as Janesville, Wis.-based Mercy Health System's plan to build a $115 million, 70-bed hospital in Crystal Lake.
Board members voting against the plans said there was not enough proof in terms of a true need for more hospital beds in the area, according to the report.
Both systems previously applied for a certificate of need in July and can appeal this latest denial.
