The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is suspending Medicaid payments to hospitals for at least one week due to waning funds for increasing claims, according to a Salt Lake Tribune report.
The suspension affects 51 hospitals in Idaho that accept Medicaid patients and delays spending of approximately $13 million in claims. The department plans to announce by Thursday if an additional week of suspended Medicaid payments is necessary, citing the number of claims as one of the deciding factors.
The department is reporting an 8 percent increase in Medicaid recipients this year, an increase unplanned for in the budget. The department also suspended payments to providers for several weeks last year due to a $90 million shortage in its Medicaid budget.
