The U.S. House of Representatives approved a healthcare spending package on June 13 that included an amendment to reverse the Trump administration's ban on using federal dollars for research using fetal tissue, The Hill reports.
The ban ended NIH funding for fetal tissue research. Any projects currently using fetal tissue are permitted to continue until their contracts end. Any future projects involving fetal tissue will need review and approval from an ethics advisory board.
The spending package that sought to overturn this ban was pushed through by House Democrats. The lack of bipartisan support in the House suggests it will not survive the Senate, where Republicans hold a majority of seats, according to The Hill.
