Thomson, Ga.-based University Hospital McDuffie hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday, officially opening the newest hospital in the Augusta, Ga.-based University Health Care System, according to The Augusta Chronicle.
The nonprofit 25-bed hospital plans to accept its first patient Jan. 8.
The replacement facility was built after University Health acquired McDuffie Regional Medical Center, which was struggling to stay open.
University Health funded the construction of the entire $30 million 68,000-square foot facility. The new hospital includes 25 inpatient rooms, three operating rooms, an emergency department with trauma and cardiac rooms, an imaging department with a CT scanner, onsite laboratory services and a heliport.
