Former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, R, told reporters Monday he is "the best person" for the job of Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to a report from The Hill.
Mr. Brown spoke with reporters after meeting with President-elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York, according to the report. "Obviously I think the toughest job in the Cabinet is to lead the VA, because it has, while it has so many angels working there, it has so many great problems as well. So he's obviously going to take my application, or interest, under consideration," Mr. Brown said, according to the report.
Mr. Brown has more than 30 years of experience in the National Guard. He told reporters he would focus on mental health and integrating veterans back into their communities if chosen to lead the agency. Mr. Brown also said he is does not view the appointment as a competition, according to the report.
However, he does face other contenders for the job. Florida Rep. Jeff Miller, R, chairman of the House VA Committee is rumored to be another potential pick for VA secretary, according to Politico. He told the news organization he would "very seriously" consider an offer.
Mr. Brown expects a decision on the position after Thanksgiving, according to The Hill.
