Lee Memorial Health System in Fort Myers, Fla., said it will "vigorously defend" itself in two lawsuits accusing the health system of not paying one former and one current employee for all hours worked, according to a News-Press news report.
A formerly employed nurse and a current security guard have separately filed lawsuits against the health system, claiming they were not paid for all hours worked because the health system automatically deducted 30 minutes for a meal break every day, regardless of whether they worked through the break or not. Neither lawsuit lists how much the plaintiffs believe they are owed, according to the news report.
An attorney representing both plaintiffs believes other former and current employees will come forward and has requested class-action status. Lee Memorial released a statement, in which it denied the accusations.
