Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport, N.Y., is the latest hospital to implement a smoking ban, according to a Long Island Business News report.
Eastern Long Island Hospital is not the first to install a smoking ban. Hospitals, health systems and hospital associations across the country have worked to phase out the habit in healthcare facilities with the help of cessation programs and communication.
Massachusetts Hospital Association, for instance, unveiled a smoke-free initiative for hospitals. The Joint Commission and Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System also co-authored a guide for healthcare organizations to implement and enforce a smoke-free or tobacco-free policy.
