Cleveland Clinic: We're keeping the 2018 gala at Trump's estate

Cleveland Clinic is standing its ground and will host its 2018 fundraising gala at President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., despite continued pressure to move the event to a different location, Newsweek reports.

Eileen Shiel, Cleveland Clinic's executive director of corporate communications, reaffirmed to Newsweek that the nonprofit health system will host its gala at Mar-a-Lago in 2018. However, Cleveland Clinic will consider other locations going forward, she told The Boston Globe.

Cleveland Clinic faces its second petition this year calling for it to move the annual gala to another location. "Fundraising events should not directly enrich a politician actively working to take healthcare from our patients and research funding from our labs," the petition reads. "The Cleveland Clinic must make finding a new location for the fundraiser a priority." The petition has nearly 1,200 signatures.
