City mayor learns of cancer diagnosis while filming hospital ad

The mayor of Stillwater, Okla., has been diagnosed with breast cancer after filming a public service announcement promoting Stillwater Medical Center's new 3D mammography technology, according to the Charlotte Observer.

During a press conference Wednesday, Mayor Gina Noble said her diagnosis was unsettling news, but she will be OK because the cancer was detected early.

"Life takes turns, and mine has taken a turn. Some day I won't be here, but it's not because of breast cancer," Ms. Noble said during the press conference, according to the report.

Ms. Noble is a board member of the medical center. She said she was asked to shoot the public service announcement, which included the mammogram.

"And they said, 'Would you mind, as mayor, as a woman, would it be OK if you did a mammography and let us follow you?' I said 'Absolutely, that's a great public service.' I scheduled it for that week, went in and Dava gave me my mammography, which was very simple. I found out the news within 24 hours," she said, according to the report.
