The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Lancaster (Pa.) General Health announced this week a new partnership that is designed to enhance general pediatric care and support emergency pediatric care for families in the Lancaster County area.
Here are four things to know about the partnership.
1. Under the agreement, beginning July 1, CHOP will provide inpatient pediatric care to the 19-bed pediatric unit at Lancaster General and pediatric support to its emergency department, according to a news release. CHOP cardiologists will be providing services in the inpatient and outpatient areas.
2. For those situations requiring more intensive treatment, the agreement ensures that pediatric patients will have direct access to CHOP's main hospital in Philadelphia.
3. The agreement also calls for ongoing discussions about adding additional CHOP services in the future. Those include CHOP services in the 29-bed neonatal intensive care unit at Lancaster General's Women & Babies Hospital in Lancaster; and CHOP support in additional outpatient pediatric specialties including gastroenterology, endocrinology, neurology and pulmonology. In addition, strengthening pediatric urgent care services will be explored, both parties said.
4. The agreement Lancaster General has entered into with CHOP replaces its prior agreement with Penn State Hershey Medical Center system and Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, which expires July 1, to provide inpatient hospitalist services.
