Sheldon Retchin, MD, MPH, will be the executive vice president of health sciences and CEO of Columbus, Ohio-based Wexner Medical Center, as of March 2, 2015. He will be responsible for a $2.1 billion budget at the 1,246-bed medical center.
"My style of leadership is open, approachable," Dr. Wexner told The Columbus Dispatch.
Dr. Retchin comes to Wexner from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, where he served as senior vice president of health sciences and CEO of VCU Health system since 2003. Under Dr. Retchin's leadership, VCU expanded to include the Children's Hospital campus and the Community Memorial Healthcenter. He was also instrumental in the development of a healthcare program for uninsured patients in Richmond.
Dr. Retchin got his start at VCU in 1976 as an internal medicine intern. He briefly left to work at his alma mater, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from 1980 to 1886. He returned to VCU in 1987.
Dr. Retchin is a board-certified internist specializing in geriatric medicine. He holds the Ruth and Seymour Perlin Professorship of Medicine and Health Administration.
