Loy Howard, CPA, MBA, came to Carrollton, Ga.-based Tanner Health System as president and CEO in 1994.
In the two decades Mr. Howard has led Tanner, the health system has greatly expanded its facilities and services through both acquisition and construction.
In 1998, Tanner Health System acquired the 25-bed critical access Higgins General Hospital in Bremen, Ga. Mr. Howard spearheaded numerous construction projects, including the 40-bed acute care Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica in Villa Rica, Ga., in 2003; the Tanner Heart and Vascular Center in 2008; the 52-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital Willowbrooke at Tanner in 2009 and a 30-bed expansion in 2014; the Tanner MS Center in 2012; the 40-bed emergency department and surgical services expansion at the 201-bed acute care Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton in Carrollton, Ga., in 2013; the Tanner/East Alabama medical office building in 2013; numerous Tanner Medical Group practices; and Tanner Urgent Care facilities in Villa Rica, Carrollton and Bremen.
Since Mr. Howard joined Tanner, he has served as chairman of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and as a member of Atlanta Business Chronicle's "Who's Who in Atlanta," from 2006 to 2010. He is the recipient of the Georgia Hospital Association's Chairman Award in 2014, the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce's Citizen of the Year award in 2008, the Chamber's Horizon Award in 2002 and the Visionary Award from the Follow Me Foundation in 2000.
Prior to his work at Tanner Health System, Mr. Howard served as CEO and CFO at Union Hospital District in Union, S.C.
