Larry J. Goodman, MD, a clinician, researcher and medical educator, is CEO of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is also the president of Rush University, president of the Rush System for Health and principal officer of the Rush board of trustees.
In 1998, Dr. Goodman became senior vice president for medical affairs at Rush University Medical Center and the Henry R. Russe Dean of Rush Medical College. Before that, he served as medical director of Cook County Hospital (now John. H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital of Cook County) from 1996 to 1998.
Dr. Goodman was named associate dean for medical student programs at Rush in 1987. Later, he became director of the division of specialized training programs and director of inter-institutional affairs at Rush.
As a specialist and researcher in infectious disease, particularly gastrointestinal infections in HIV-positive patients, Dr. Goodman has penned articles in publications such as the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Journal of Infectious Diseases. Also known for promoting innovation in medical education, he has a written extensively on curricula and how students select a specialty for residency training.
