CEO to know: Kurt Janavitz of Integrated Health Network of Wisconsin

Kurt Janavitz, a managed care and provider relations executive, assumed the role of CEO of Brookfield, Wis.-based Integrated Health Network of Wisconsin earlier this month.

IHN of Wisconsin is a clinically integrated network of independent healthcare systems, hospitals and physicians, representing more than 5,000 physicians, 500 clinics and 42 hospitals across Wisconsin.

As he steps into his new role at the cusp of a New Year, Mr. Janavitz shared his New Year's resolutions as the system's new chief with Becker's Hospital Review.

"Healthcare services traditionally have been and continue to be one of the least customer-centric market segments. As I move into 2015, I am pushing myself to more often view information and my resulting decisions through a buyer's lens, whether that be an employer, consumer or patient.

As an integrated multi-health system/payer delivery network, the only way we can make an impact long-term is to do what is right for our customers. If we can focus more from an 'outside in' perspective and reduce costs while improving outcomes in a meaningful fashion, the positive results will follow. This seems simple, but it requires constant focus and vigilance to maintain this perspective."

Prior to joining IHN, Mr. Janavitz most recently served for four years as senior vice president of payer contracting and relations for 21st Century Oncology. Before that, he served as vice president of provider management as Assurant Health and as vice president of network management for UnitedHealth Group. He has also held leadership roles with Truven Health Analytics (formerly The Sachs Group), Navigant Consulting (formerly Tiber Group), Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group and Ernst & Young.

Mr. Janavitz is the successor to Peter Pruessing, who served as IHN's CEO since its creation in 2005.
