Brian Nester, DO, MBA, was named president and CEO of Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network Nov. 6. Prior to his appointment, Dr. Nester served as the network's acting president and CEO for five months after the retirement of former president and CEO Ronald W. Swinfard, MD, in July.
Before joining LVHN in 1998, Dr. Nester served in an academic position in emergency medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He came to LVHN as associate vice chair of department of emergency medicine as both the research director and director of the Lehigh Valley Hospital Muhlenberg emergency department.
In 2003, Dr. Nester became senior vice president for physician practice network development, in which he was responsible for aligning the physician community and coordinating greater access to LVHN's services to local community and the region. In 2007, Dr. Nester picked up the additional responsibility of overseeing the Health Network Laboratories and developing inter-hospital relationships.
From 2011 until he stepped into the role of acting president and CEO in July, Dr. Nester served as the health network's chief strategy officer. In this position, Dr. Nester oversaw the development of LVHN's strategy to address the various challenges and opportunities spurred by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
