CEO to know: Dan McKay of Sparks Health System

Dan McKay, MHA, a 20-year veteran of hospital management, is CEO of Fort Smith, Ark.-based Sparks Health System and Summit Medical Center in Van Buren, Ark. Mr. McKay entered this role in August.

Prior to joining Sparks Health System, he served as CEO of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems-owned Northwest Health System for five years, which includes three Arkansas hospitals: Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville and Springdale and Willow Creek Women's Hospital in Johnson.

During his tenure at Northwest Health System, Mr. McKay developed collaborative relationships with physicians on the medical staff, which resulted in the recruitment of 100 new physicians and the opening of 20 new clinics. The system also opened several new services, including a stroke program with University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, a hospitalist program, telemedicine at Bentonville and Springdale and a new emergency department in Springdale.

Prior to serving at Northwest Health System, Mr. McKay was vice president of Community Health Systems Professional Services Corporation, where he supported the management of operations at several hospitals across the country.
