CEO profile: Derek Vance, leader of community care

Derek Vance, MHA, was appointed CEO of LewisGate Hospital Pulaski (Va.) beginning Nov. 13, 2014.

Since 2009, Mr. Vance served as COO of the 225-bed Davis Hospital and Medical Center in Layton, Utah. He previously served as vice president of operations and business development of Labette Health in Parsons, Kan., and as director of surgical services at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, Ind.

He brings more than 14 years of leadership experience to his new role at LewisGate and has plans to grow the 135-bed hospital and build on its current cancer care, orthopedics, ENT and emergency department services, according to the local paper, The Patriot.

"It is rare you find a community hospital that is truly having an impact on people in a personal way, and also has the support of a larger health system that is known for high-quality care throughout Southwest Virginia. It is a great facility and we want to make it even stronger," Mr. Vance told The Patriot.
